Oregon has fairly good laws protecting renters; however the great thing (said sarcastically) about Oregon is that their process moves so quickly renters have almost no time to prepare. Oregon is also a mediation state; every eviction court requires a mediation between landlord or property manager and the tenants, which basically does the tenant no good unless they have legal representation. As with every state the attorneys that represent the landlord are ruthless and like to push their attorney privileges on the tenant. Each tenant should have an attorney to represent them, but like mentioned above, there is almost zero time to acquire legal representation due to the fast track system that Oregon has.

So, due to this reasoning the laws that are for the tenants’ rights are basically useless. There are a lot of legal defense attorneys for tenants in Oregon, the fun part though they claim nothing can be done until you receive an actual eviction summons, then when you receive one Oregon sets a first appearance date only one week out, so by the time you receive it, now you contact a legal defense and they say there is not enough time to represent you. This is what we here at S.A.F.E. Housing Union call plain and simple “GAMES”.
